Jingle Books, Jingle Books, Jingle All the Way

January 6, 2017

For the past few years Coeur d’Alene High School Key Club has partnered with Panhandle Kiwanis president, Dave Eubanks, and Jingle Books to improve literacy proficiency among young kids. Studies have shown that if kids are not able to read proficiently by the end of third grade they are more likely to fall behind in school or drop out. Jingle Books is a district wide book drive with the goal of sending every kindergarten through third grader home with a book so that they have reading material outside of school. This year Key Club paired with Student Council and Leadership for the drive and set a school wide goal of raising 4,000 books. A goal that could be reached if every CHS student brought in just 3 books. In five days 4,713 books were raised by CHS students and the district reached their goal of raising 45,000 books. As a result every kindergarten through third grader in the school district was able to take home six books. Key Clubbers spent a large number of hours collecting, sorting, and even distributing books at the elementary schools. This is a project that Key Club takes on every year and next year they hope to raise even more and continue to extend beyond their goal.
