Johnny's Key Club Story
With me finishing my Freshmen year not doing anything, I felt really unaccomplished. Deciding that I wanted to get involved, I joined Key Club my Sophomore year. My first meeting was really scary since I didn't know anyone and they all knew each other.
My first event was Trick-or-Treat for Unicef and that is where I really saw what Key Club was all about, a club that wants to give back to the community around it. Throughout that year, I got more involved with my club and ending up getting an end of the year award my first year.Come Junior year, I started learning more about Divisions and the District and wanted to get even more involved. When Junior year elections came around, my friend Kenny Wu and I had a plan to run our home club as President and Vice. Unfortunately, I was up against 3 other people for the Vice-President role and lost. This also gave me the opportunity to run for Lieutenant Governor but I didn't take that opportunity cause I didn't see myself fit after losing the election for Vice-President. Last comes DCON 2017. This was the first time I've ever seen so much energy in one place, especially my hometown. Seeing all the cheers, chants, spirit, and people who have the same vision as me was such an amazing experience. I remember walking on stage with my friends and retrieving awards for my division was so much fun. DCON gave me a reason to apply to be my Division's Executive Assistant and to help not only my Lt.G but those who are curious about Key Club but are afraid to get involved and ask. Needless to say, Key Club has definitely been a big part of my life and plays a big role in who I am today.
